Safety Check feature is now available for Facebook Lite in India

New Delhi,Feb 07:Social media giant Facebook on Wednesday introduced its Safety Check feature for Facebook Lite. This feature has been rolled out in more than 100 countries, including India, to empower users in areas with low internet connectivity.Facebook’s Safety Check feature was rolled out back in 2014. In the areas of immediate danger, Facebook’s Safety Check allows people to notify their family and friends that they are safe. This feature is activated whenever a major disastrous event takes place like natural calamity or a terrorist attack.

This feature allows users who reside in that affected area or around it to mark themselves safe. This way their friends and family on Facebook are notified about their safety. Over the years, Facebook has been introducing new features to Safety Check. Some of these include giving users the ability to donate to affected people.Facebook’s watered down but fast Lite app is designed for users to access the social media platform in areas with low connectivity or limited internet.Facebook launched its Lite app for Android smartphones back in 2015. The app is less than 1MB in size thereby taking only a few seconds to download. Facebook Lite is currently available in over 100 countries, and is used by people in 55 languages.After almost a month since its launch, Facebook Lite hit 100 monthly users by March 2016. It has now doubled the size of its user base with over 200 million users
